Functional Genomics of Plant Development

Research at the lab is inspired in the processes that guide and make possible patterning and function assignment in cells and cell groups, and that elegantly and coordinately integrate, forming tissues and organs, and finally a whole organism. Specially, we use plant fruits as a model. We study genes and gene groups that affect the normal course of development when their expression is affected, investigating their function using different molecular and genetic strategies. We want to generate new knowledge that helps the integration of these genes in known networks that guide and coordinate fruit development. Furthermore, besides helping improving the understanding about tissue and organ development, the generated knowledge has the potential of serving as a base to develop applications that can improve or solve difficulties found in fruit production for human consumption. Ideally, these applications could positively impact life quality of producers (specially in the less developed regions) and consumers.
