Our group is interested in the study of Evolutionary Genetic Interactions and its functional implications.

We have used different models and tools to understand these interactions at different levels. Currently our main project, funded by the Research in Science Frontiers program from CONACYT (FC-2015-2/967), aims to understand “the role of mitochondrial function in evolutionary processes”. We are interested in identifying adaptive allelic variants of genes related to mitochondrial function (including both the mtDNA-encoded and the nuclear DNA-encoded genes) to functionally test them in biological models (yeast and nematode). We use diverse omic tools, including Paleogenomics, as well as genetic and bioinformatics methods. Our specialized Paleogenomics laboratory, installed under international standards, is one of the few available in Latin America.

  • Revisiting infanticide and sex selection in Iberian protohistoric times. Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (2019-2023). Member of the research team.
